The Money for Living Fair was held on April 11, 2015, to provide financial literacy information to low income and vulnerable residents in an interactive and fun format. The Fair featured eleven displays, thirteen information sessions, refreshments, child minding and children’s activities. TumbleBus and FVRLibrary Live and on Tour were highlight events, attracting 45 children.
The program included informative sessions on taxation, eating healthy on a budget, budgeting, job search techniques, resources for seniors, the wise consumer, credit, debt, raising financially aware kids, and saving with coupons. Participants were enthusiastic about the sessions. Each session was followed with a draw for prizes donated by local businesses and organizations.
Local service organizations provided information on health, fitness, literacy, library services, education, credit, employment and other services within our community.
About 152 people participated in the Money for Living Fair. Many hope it is the first of many annual financial literacy fairs.
The Money for Living Fair is part of the financial literacy project of Chilliwack Community Services and Chilliwack Learning Society with funding from Prosper Canada and support from local organizations and businesses.
