The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 280 in Vedder kicked off its new year of donating to worthy community non-profits by handing over a $1,000 cheque to the Chilliwack Learning Society (CLS) on Friday, Jan. 27.
The donation is part of a commitment by Br. 280 to give to local non-profits each month in 2017.
“We are strengthening our community through literacy and lifelong learning,” said CLS president Ken Goudswaard, “and this generous donation from Br. 280 will go a long way towards funding the various literacy programs we have for people of all ages.”
On hand to present the CLS with the cheque was Legion Br. 280 President Doug Harrison and branch member Kathy Janzen.
Branch 280 raises funds through its meat draws, raffles, fundraisers and other events throughout the year.
